New Partnership Formed
Jubilee Fund Assists with Newcomer Education Financing
The Jubilee Fund sponsoredf Lilian Oketayot when she enrolled in the Travel Counselor program at Robertson College. Lilian, originally from Africa is being sponsored through the newcomer education financing program.
Lilian graduated in 2009 and hopes to find a job within the industry, as travel has always been a passion for her.
This unique partnership with Robertson College provided monthly progress reports and allow the Fund to support her educational financing on a month to month basis.
Lilian came to Winnipeg in 2005 from Africa. Before settling in Canada, she worked as a counselor with Jesuit Refugee Services, represented Windle Trust at a major UN meeting in Kenya and provided leadership for various events in the Kakuma Refugee camp. Lilian was also involved with Film Aid International in Kenya.
In addition to working on her Travel Counsellor Program at Robertson College, Lilian graduated in October, 2009 from the University of Winnipeg where she took International Development Studies and Conflict Resolution. She has volunteered with UNICEF, World University Services of Canada and provides administrative support at the Red Cross. Lilian has been a dancer and volunteer with the Africa Pavilion at Forklorama since 2007.
