The Jubilee Fund provides flexible financing in the form of loan guarantees for worthy individuals who can not qualify for traditional financing.  We do not give grants. (see full goals here).

Community Projects

This type of investment enables worthy individuals to create employment while providing service to working families in the community.  The Jubilee Fund has participated in the development and expansion of daycare operations.  Training centres that advance the interests of workers and business are also considered favourably.

Career Action Pathing Centre (North End Community Renewal Corporation)
Provides support and counselling for unemployed
residents in the North End.

Cornish Child Care Centre
A daycare project in Winnipeg's West Broadway neighbourhood.
Jubilee Fund helps provide spaces for children in day care.

Canadian Deafblind Association - Manitoba Chapter

The Canadian Deafblind Association – Manitoba Chapter (formerly known as Intervention Manitoba Inc) has recently received financing from The Jubilee Fund Inc. to assist in the purchase of two homes. (CDBA) is a non-profit service provider of Supported Living Homes for individuals who are Deafblind (combined loss of sight and hearing from birth).

Downs Children Centre

Major renovations and facility upgrades were needed for this child care centre. The centre operates from 5:30 am to midnight and provides part-time and full-time care for 50 children. The Jubilee Fund was pleased to provide the loan to support the efforts of the parents & board members.

Elmwood Community Resource Centre

The Jubilee Fund provided bridge financing to allow the Elmwood Community Resource Centre to operate their Aboriginal Youth Involvement Program during the summer & fall of 2011.The Aboriginal Youth Involvement Program is cultural based and provides wilderness survival programming and other activities for youth between the ages of ten to twenty-one.

Explorer's Children's Centre

The Jubilee Fund is thrilled to support the Explorer’s Children’s Centre Inc. in their relocation to a new home. Explorer's was established in 1976 to provide quality child care to families in the Weston Community.

Financial Foundations Resource Centre (Alternative Financial Services)
An empty bank in the North End was purchased,
renovated and assisted to revitalize activity in the area.

King's Park Day Care Centre Inc. - Part 2

To meet the demands of a long wait list, the volunteer Board of Directors voted to expand their Day Care in the retail mall where they are situated.  The Jubilee Fund was once again pleased to assist in the expansion and renovation project.

This child care centre moved into a former retail strip mall
location. The Jubilee Fund provided financial assistance to help with the renovations.

Lilian Oketayot

The Jubilee Fund is happy to announce their funding of Lilian Oketayot who enrolled in the Travel Counselor program at Robertson College. Lilian, originally from Africa was sponsored through the newcomer education financing program.  

Murdo Scribe Centre
New offices and meeting space for the Aboriginal Education Directorate
created out of an old furniture store on Selkirk Avenue in the North End.

North Kildonan Little Thinkers Daycare

A brand new daycare opened on September 2006 in East Kildonan with 36 children ages from two to six years, with more than half coming from low-income families. The Jubilee Fund provided a loan guarantee to Little Thinkers to assist with the renovation costs and leasehold improvements.

Panda Bear Daycare Co-op
In 2001, this parent-owned, community-based child care centre needed
extra funds to accommodate the increased demand for their services.

River Avenue Co-operative Day Nursery Inc.

With their lease running out at 174A Mayfair Avenue, the volunteer Board has approved the construction of a new day nursery that was built at 127 Bell Street.

Sudanese Cultural Community Centre

The Sudan Humanitarian Relief Organization and the Sudanese Association of Manitoba (SAM) came together in 2006 to purchase a building located on 129 Dagmar Street. The building was purchased to fulfill a desire by their members to provide a safe community place for the reported 3,000 Sudanese people who live in Manitoba

Business Projects

The Jubilee Fund provides loan guarantees that allow small business owners and worker co-operatives to access funding.

Diversity Food Services

Diversity Food Services was formed at the University of Winnipeg to deliver excellent food services to the University while providing meaningful employment and ownership opportunities for the community.

The newest University of Winnipeg restaurant is housed in the new Richardson’s Science Centre, so it was logical to have a science theme to the name

GD – 02 Worker Co-op
Former workers at a furniture plant formed a co-operative to employ themselves.
They purchased working capital with the help of the Jubilee Fund.

GGR Mould Remediation Services
A self-starting entrepreneur and certified mould-removal expert,
needed a loan for start up costs, tools and special equipment.

Mondragon Worker Cooperative Ltd.
Workers at a popular downtown coffee house and book store needed extra financing
to purchase their business from the previous owner and form a worker cooperative.

Neechi Commons Co-operative

Neechi Foods Co-op Ltd. has taken a big step towards helping to transform Main Street north of the CPR underpass. With the purchase of a piece of property on Main Street they plan to spearhead the development of a community business complex.

Neechi Foods Co-op

There is a lot of good humour and spirit among the worker-members of Neechi Foods Co-op; far more than can be explained by the aroma of freshly baked bannock! But the smiles were especially big after they learned that in December 2006, the Jubilee Fund had agreed to help the Co-op re-structure its finances in preparation for future expansion.

New Earth Bakery
This project received support from the Jubilee Fund in 2001.

Northern Star Worker Co-op
Working capital, product testing, productivity enhancement -- all these were
needed by a women's co-op. The Jubilee Fund helped with financing.

Organic Planet (sole proprietorship)
In 2002, the Jubilee Fund Inc. provided support to this business.

Organic Planet Worker Co-op
After a sole ownership organic food store in Wolseley closed down, five workers came to the Jubilee Fund for financing to open the doors once again.

Peg City Car Co-op

Bike. Walk. Bus. and Sometimes, Drive. Peg City Car Co-op was officially launched on June 24th, 2011. Presently with 55 members, they expect those numbers to grow to 70 by the end of the year.

Pollock's Hardware Co-op Ltd.

The story of Pollock's Hardware Co-op Ltd. is an amazing tale of community ingenuity and development.

Sacco & Vanzetti's Grocery and Deli (Mondragon 2009)

A popular restaurant in the Exchange District, Mondragon Worker Cooperative has recently launched Sacco & Vanzetti’s, a fully functioning organic grocery store and delicatessen. The new grocery and deli will be located within the Mondragon Bookstore and Coffeehouse space providing healthy, affordable, organic, groceries and deli products to Winnipeg’s downtown Exchange District and surrounding core area.

Shabe Sheko Narso

A popular folk singer from Ethiopia, receives funding to produce her first Oromo music

CD since moving to Canada as a refugee in 2000.

Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company

In 2009, the Jubilee Fund was happy to announce its support for the Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company. Tall Grass will be enlarging its existing bakery on Wolseley which will allow for more production space, larger ovens and a larger sales space that will allow the customers more space to move around and look at goods displayed in shelves and coolers.

West Broadway Development Corporation (WBDC)

In 2006, WBDC purchased and renovated a building at 640 Broadway for their new offices.  The Jubilee Fund provided the security for the second mortgage.

Your Place Hair Design
This was the "very first" project supported by the Jubilee Fund.

Housing Projects

The Jubilee Fund works with organizations to provide bridge funding to low-income families and individuals.  The loans are used for renovations, new buildings and in-fill housing.

Greenheart Housing Inc.

Recently opened in West Broadway, twenty one - three bedroom apartments, that are targeted for low and modest income tenants.  Units are energy efficient, with

green design choices. The Jubilee Fund provided a line of credit for the $2.4 million dollar investment.

Heart Housing Inc.
A collaborative, non-profit housing project that helps immigrant families become
home owners. The Jubilee Fund helped finance a mortgage.

Kikinaw Housing - Furby Street

In 2007, Kikinaw Housing Inc. with a loan from the Jubilee Fund, purchased two derelict houses. The houses were immediately demolished and the land sat vacant until the summer of 2010 when there was an opportunity for the construction of two new high efficiency fourplexes to be built on these sites.  The suites are targeted to low-income households.

Kikinaw Housing - Langside Street

The Jubilee Fund provided a loan for the acquisition of a large vacant lot adjoining a Kikinaw apartment building.  In the short term the lost is being converted to a serviced, managed and much-needed parking lot.  The long-term plan is for the construction of 12 - 15 suites of quality and dignified low-cost housing.

North End Housing Project (4 houses)
A non-profit housing organization acquires and renovates older homes,
with an aim to providing quality affordable housing in the North End.

SISTARS Community Economic Development Co-op

A non-profit housing co-operative was formed in the Point Douglas area to purchase and

rent local housing to residents who are part of the certified childcare worker program.

Once they have completed the program, the house will then be sold to the renter.

Spence Neighbourhood Association (2008)
The Jubilee Fund partnered with the Spence Neighbourhood Association (SNA) and the University of Winnipeg to provide affordable housing in an emerging part of the city. The Jubilee Fund provided the financing for two houses that were moved and renovated, providing badly needed residential properties.

Spence Neighbourhhod Association (2004)
The Jubilee Fund helps this association rebuild a neighbourhood one house at a time. Through a program called “Four New Houses”, the Association built four houses in 2003 that were sold very quickly. the Jubilee Fund provided the bridge financing for the houses.

Student Apartments in Spence Neighbourhood (457 Young St.)
An abandoned apartment building came to life, now providing lower-cost housing for students

at the University of Winnipeg. Bridge financing provided by the Jubilee Fund.

Student/Single Parent Apartments in West Broadway (275-277 Furby Street)
A dorm house for student women and single parent was renovated out of an old home (110 years old) and adjacent apartment building.
