More about mentors
A mentorship program is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of a less experienced person through individual attention from someone with more experience and knowledge in a given area of expertise.
Enhance success rate
It is important that when the Jubilee Fund loans money, it doesn’t set the project up for failure. The addition of a mentor significantly enhances the success rate of the business. Mentorship should not be viewed as a one-time only process. In order to be successful, it should be an on-going part of the business.
It is suggested that mentoring begins prior to the business even being started. Consultation with a mentor on a business idea can save time, money and disappointment. The mentor may provide advice as to the location of the business, may advise the entrepreneur to research the idea further before going ahead, etc.
Trust and respect
For mentorship to be effective, it must include mutual trust and respect. Mentoring can cover everything from technical issues to brainstorming sessions. Words of support and confidence can be highly effective in encouraging the client. Sometimes just knowing someone is out there to answer questions is reassuring.
Mentoring can be equally beneficial to the mentors. It provides them with opportunities to develop personal skills and share lifetimes of expertise and experience.
