Jubilee Fund Partners to Help Make Change
May 15, 2025, WINNIPEG, MB. // Winnipeg-based Jubilee Fund has partnered with Peg City Car Co-op to finance an ambitious shift away from internal combustion engines (ICE) toward electric and hybrid-electric vehicles.
The $500,000 financing initiative has enabled Peg City Car Co-op to add 10 new hybrid electric vehicles to its fleet, plus two new fully electric vehicles.
“We are incredibly excited to be able to partner on this initiative,” said Jubilee Fund’s executive director, Peter Cantelon. “As a car co-op, Peg City and its transition to electric lands right in the centre of our mission to reduce poverty and the impacts on those who face economic hardship. Peg City offers an affordable alternative to car ownership and will now contribute to reduced emissions in Winnipeg.”
The investment reflects Peg City’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship. Carsharing reduces the impact on climate and the environment while providing Winnipeggers access to accessible, affordable vehicles. Electrifying the fleet only deepens that commitment.
“Our partnership with Jubilee Fund helps Peg City grow responsibly as we look to the future,” said Philip Mikulec, CEO of Peg City Car Co-op. “We recognize that shifting to electric from internal combustion is better for everyone.”
The seeds of Peg City Car Co-op date back to 2007, when five volunteers started talking about a new approach to transportation in Winnipeg. The car co-op launched in 2011 with three cars and forty members. Now, Peg City hosts a diverse fleet of nearly 200 vehicles, with round-trip and free-floating options serving more than 4,000 members.
Jubilee Fund is Manitoba’s only charitable social finance, impact investment fund, here to offer financial help for local non-profits and social enterprises working to reduce the impact of poverty.
